I paint things that fascinate me and capture my imagination. While I never considered myself a realistic painter, many of my recent works are more realistic - as I dig into my sources, and as my skills develop. My observations are transformed through the filter of what I like about my subject, so that each interpretation is fresh and enthusiastic.

You might say that I am a mature painter now. It has been 45 years since I graduated from Montserrat College of Visual Arts. While I’ve done a lot of things in my life, I’ve never stopped making art. I’m no longer worried about not getting it right, but have learned to let my paintings develop the way they lead. I’m no longer intimidated by things that might be hard to paint.

After nearly 40 years in Portland, Maine, I moved to Belfast. I love the rolling hills and huge skies of midcoast, and am pulled towards making landscapes. In addition to being surrounded by nature, I have many new friends and am near animals. I am also starting to explore interpreting pictures of family history, which intrigues me.
